Valbona Aliko

Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Faculty of Natural sciences, Tirana University, Albania. Her research interests are focused on studying the mechanisms of adaptive response of animals to environmental stress, with a special attention to establishing a battery of biochemical, physiological and cytological biomarkers for evaluation of the health status of freshwater and marine biota (invertebrates, fish, amphibians). It also concerns the expression of genes induced by stress factors (heavy metals, pesticides, nanoparticles) and elucidating possible molecular mechanisms of onset of cellular programmed cell death (eryptosis and autophagy).
